Once You make FP up and running, the first important thing to do will be configuring the program so that it uses your recorder. To start with drive configuration, we need to get to "Drive" page
Drive page shows specific device and unit number used to access drive as well as drive information. Configuring the drive for first time use is very easy. In the beginning we have to enter device name by hand or - better - click the popup to choose the device from list.
Once the driver is selected, it is time to pick a specific unit. You can do this by popping a second list, that shows all the supported devices that will work with program (note, only first eight units are tested!).
Nothing has changed.. no information no warnings.. but dont get confused. It is not the end of our tournee, yet ;). Now, we have to get to per-device settings, where we will set some more details about our device.
Once we get here, we have to enable two features:
- Drive Automation - this instructs device to tell us about any change that happens - every time You change disc, every time You start playback of some track or stop it, we will be instructed about this
- Probe Speeds - enabling this instructs the device and program to check for speeds allowed by medium. This shows briefly what speeds will be used for writing Your disc in "Media" page.
Description of other fields You can see here:
- Notify DOS about actions - this will instruct DOS to disable access to certain volumes while we are performing operations that will modify their contents, like erase or write.
- Autodetect DOS device - enabling this option will instruct program to find the best matching dos device everytime it is run.
- DOS Device - this is the name of the dos device that will be instructed to disable user access while program is changing disc contents.
- Find DOS device - pressing this button will instruct program to find the best matching dos device that represents your drive. If it works, it is safe to enable autodetection.
Having set everything here, we can go back now to information page and see what happened.
If all the information here matches Your drive, it means, that program should have no problems running any operation on it. Your drive is ready to use.
Note:- Some machines may have troubles working with FP running. If You experience filesystem hangups or other unexpected DOS behavior after FP is running, please disable Drive Automation.
- If Your device does not support speed probing by some reason or has troubles reading speeds properly, please disable Speed Probing function in Hardware Settings.
